The Kayamandi Pod is the first of its kind in the Western Cape. The Coceka model is designed to work in Kayamandi and beyond.

Our goal is simple – create jobs; help people earn an income doing meaningful work; keep neighbourhoods clean and healthy.

Once established, it can be rolled out to other under-resourced communities, creating jobs and cleaner neighbourhoods.

A Community solution that helps Producers comply

Coceka provides community-based recycling infrastructure to help producers meet regulatory obligations and sustainability commitments at scale. Whilst helping people earn an income, keeping neighbourhoods clean, it also helps producers meet their Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments.

We believe recycling should happen close to where waste is created, with local people leading the work.

Supporting Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)

Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs) and manufacturers are under growing pressure to show real, verified recycling impact, not just funding projects.

The Coceka Recycling Pod model gives PROs a practical way to:

  • Increase collection and recovery rates in under-serviced areas
  • Extend recycling infrastructure into townships and peri-urban communities
  • Integrate informal waste collectors into formal recycling value chains
